Matsuo Basho was a 17th century Japanese poet who established the shofu style of haiku poetry. One of the
most famous of these is the "frog poem:" furuike ya / kawazu tobikomu / mizu no oto (the old pond /
a frog jumps in / water's sound). The colors and sounds of water and quiet thoughts are the inspiration for the 16 designs in this
card package, with lines from Japanese haiku poets (Basho, Issa, and Sogu), Rumi (Islamic poet), and Lao Tzu (or Laozi,
the Chinese philosopher and author of the Tao Te Ching).
Cards are printed with
archival inks on heavy cardstock paper and include matching envelopes, and purchase
options include all 16 designs, the first half, and the second half.
