Three jewelry pieces of similar colors are related to different lunar events:
Waning Gibbous,
Waxing Crescent, and
Lunar Eclipse.
Each is a mix of warm oranges and cool greens but the relative proportion and organization of
the beads represent the changing appearance of the moon.
As the moon passes from full, it enters the waning gibbous phase. The moon is waning because the reflected face is getting smaller and gibbous refers to the oval-to-round shape before the third quarter moon. In this 17" necklace, green quartz faceted rondelles are like the illuminated face with multicolor moonstone flat teardrops as the shadow. Gemstones are spaced with 14kt gold-fill and strung on pure silk cord for superior drape. Naturally occurring prasiolite (green quartz) is a light colored, translucent green, but the green quartz gemstones in this necklace are heat-treated amethyst. Both are quartz; what distinguishes them is the source of the color (heat-treated versus not). Green quartz is relatively rare as most amethyst has trace elements that cause it to turn golden yellow when heated rather than green. Moonstone is a gemstone-quality feldspar with a soft glow of light, like diffuse moonlight, that can occur in a range of color from pale cream to peach and rich brown and gray. 14kt gold-fill toggle clasp. Cost: $142.00 USD
