The C and C++ programming languages require declaration of various data types
for memory management; the amount of bytes allocated is determined by the
type: an integer value between 0 and 65535 can be stored in a 2-byte (16-bit) unsigned
short data type, whereas a floating point number is stored in a 4-byte (32-bit)
float data type. In this necklace, the top
strand holds a single tile representing the single bit for a Boolean type;
the middle strand holds 16 tiles reprenting the 16 bits in an unsigned short
type; and the bottom strand holds 32 tiles of different colors representing
the 23 bits of the mantissa, 8 bits of the exponent, and single bit for the sign of
a float type. The tiles are coated Japanese seedbeads, known for their exacting uniformity,
strung with more irregular Hill Tribe silver nuggets on coated bronze wire. It's a
celebration of computer science and style!
