Nerve cells are some of the longest cells in the body, stretching as long as 3 feet. At one end are the thin, branching dendrites covered in synapses for receiving signals and at the other end are synapses for transmitting signals. The soma (cell body) and long axon covered with myelin sheaths are between these. The lovely blue green lampwork glass tube beads in this 16" necklace are like the myelin sheath cells, protecting the axon and ending in sterling silver "transmitting" and "receiving" elements.

  • SoftFlex nylon-coated stainless steel beading cord (10 lb load test)

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

Although the beading cord is strong, the sterling silver elements can be bent if tugged too vigorously. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

This 16" works well with flat-front shirts like t-shirts and shells. It may be partnered with a collared shirt, but it would likely need to be tucked inside.
