A joy of imagination is to think of one's circumstances differently. For example,
elements in this 26" necklace might transport one back to the 1981 film
"Clash of the Titans" featuring the heroes Perseus and Andromeda, their monstrous foes Medusa
and the dreaded Kraken, and Bubo the wise mechanical owl. The hand cast pewter beads are individual
creations from
artists at Green Girl Studios in North Carolina, and they include the snake covered head of Medusa,
the wise owl, a swimming maiden of the sea, and the tentacled foe of the deep. These beads are found
between land and sea, represented by bayong wood beads and glittering glass teardrops
handcrafted by artists of Unicorne Beads in Califorina. Glass artists create each bead by hand,
using a torch flame to shape the bead and finishing the bead
in a high temperature kiln for strength and durability. The rich colors and patterns are created
through use of dichroic glass, a glass developed for aerospace with multiple layers of metal oxides
that happens to showcase brilliant optical properties in addition to the resiliency required for
spacesuits. Soft and strong satin cord in ombre blue to yellow connects the beads to the
easy to fasten pewter hook and eye clasp.
