This anatomically correct rendering of a human heart as a bronze pendant is a good reminder
that our hearts are strong, resilient muscles. In one of Barbara Kingsolver's books, a character
remarks how it's the liver that should be considered the fragile, "breakable" organ,
not the heart. Hearts are tough. In an average lifetime, a human heart will beat about 2 billion
times. In a year, your heart will pump over 2 1/2 million liters of blood throughout your body
(that's about 650,000 gallons). All this is from an organ about the size of your fist.
