With her droll observation that "a single man in possession of a good fortune must be
in want of a wife", Jane Austen leads us through the drawing rooms and country houses of 18th

Mrs. Hall, of Sherborne, was brought to bed yesterday of a dead child, some weeks before she expected,
owing to a fright. I suppose she happened unawares to look at her husband.
Charles Powelett gave a dance on Thursday, to the great disturbance of all his neighbours,
of course, who, you know, take a most lively interest in the state of his finances, and live in hopes
of his being soon ruined.
Tanzanite is the gemstone featured in the necklace; it is a dark blue variety of zoisite
