Peridona is Greek for "to give richness", an apt description for the
fresh yellow green peridots found in this pendant: rich in color, rich in style, but
not rich in silica! Peridot comes from the mineral
olivine, a nesosilicate ("island" silicate) forming in silica-poor igneous
rocks like basalt and peridotite. It is one of the first crystals to form in cooling
lava, and its tolerance for high heat makes it useful for manufacturing purposes. Olivine
has been found in lunar rocks and stony-iron meteorites; cross sections show
pockets of the yellow-green crystal embedded within the meteorite material.
Most gem quality stones come from Pakistan, Myanmar and
Arizona. Faceted peridots are set in sterling silver in this necklace by the talented artisans
of SilverRocks, and the pendant is paired with a fluid sterling silver squared snake chain.
