Our modern day "Lady-in-Waiting" is the personal assistant or secretary, though generally
without the noble rank or title. Historically, a "lady-in-waiting" was royalty herself, just
lower rank than the royal woman she aided. A personal assistant to the Queen has the further distinction of being
called a "Lady of the Bedchamber", a somewhat disquieting title that is nevertheless
a very prestigious position due to proximity to Queen herself. Queen Elizabeth II has a number of
Ladies of the Bedchamber and a Mistress of the Robes, the senior-most lady of the household.
This necklace features ametrine, a quartz silicate that shows a transition region between amethyst
and citrine. The delicate, paler colors bespeak the behind-the-scenes role of the royal Lady though
with grace, class and a fair amount of patience. The gold-fill nuggets are hollow and lightweight, making
this an easy, classic accessory for day or evening.
