Walking through the gem show is a feast for the eyes; the vendors display stacks of trays of glittering gems under bright lights and the strands are beautiful. Most sapphire strands are faceted rondelles with good color but low transparency, and they make elegant multi-strand pieces. The color in this sapphire strand was fantastic; it's not often to find a single strand containing the range of color seen here. Although blue is its best known color, sapphire can be white, yellow, orange, green or pink. Pink sapphire is often confused with ruby, especially since they are both the mineral corundum. However, if one compares the pink sapphire gemstones in this necklace with ruby gemstones in either the complementary or generous necklaces, one can see the dividing characteristic: ruby is truly red whereas pink sapphire is more pink. Many times my necklaces are combinations of a number of materials, but the joyful mix of sapphire color required nothing else to make it distinctive. The sterling silver clasp is a C-clasp for which one lines up the thin openings to open or close the fastening. The necklace length can be adjusted from 16" (length of gemstone strand) to up to 20" using a sterling silver circle chain extender.

  • Soft Touch light duty nylon coated stainless steel cord (10 lb. load test)

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Also, the gemstones required a narrower diameter beading cord so extra care is recommended when it comes to avoiding sharp tugs, as this can damage the cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

The thinner diameter beading cord means the necklaces are not robust to hard pulls and tugs so it's recommended to keep these out of reach. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

Without the sterling silver chain extension, the necklace is shorter (16") and perfect for higher necklines or under a collar.
