Tiger, tiger burning bright
In the forests of the night...

So begins the famous William Blake poem of the fiery tiger. Thankfully, the only "tiger" in these 16"-18" necklaces is that smooth lustrous stone called tiger's eye. Tiger eye is a quartz mineral with parallel layers of amphibole resulting in lustrous chatoyancy; red tiger eye is simply tiger eye that's been heated. Tiger iron is a metamorphic rock type of tiger eye, jasper and hematite in characteristic banding, seen in the larger rectangle stones. The necklaces may be worn together or alone for a strong statement or more subtle accent. Copper beads and clasp are used in the tiger iron necklace, and 14kt gold-fill beads and clasp are used in the red tiger eye necklace.

Length: necklaces - 16"-18"

Materials:

  • tiger iron beads
  • red tigereye beads
  • obsidian chips
  • brushed copper rondelles
  • copper beads
  • copper lobster clasp
  • 14kt gold-fill beads
  • 14kt gold-fill lobster clasp and extension chain
  • Soft Flex moderate duty nylon coated stainless steel cord (30 lb. load test)

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

The beads and beading cord should withstand determined toddler tugs and pulls. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

This pair of mid-length 16"-18" necklaces can be worn separately or together. The larger, longer tiger iron necklace works well as a statement piece with solid neutral tops with a variety of necklines, high to moderate. The thinner tigereye necklace is a nice accent piece that can be worn as a necklace or a double-wrap bracelet (see the necklets page for more examples).
