Io is known as the innermost and smallest of the four Galiean moons of Jupiter, and in
Greek mythology Io is the unfortunate maiden subject to Hera's wrath and transformed
to a heifer to prevent her coupling with Zeus. Out of sympathy, the gods created the violet
for Io to eat. She wandered to Egypt where she returned to human form, gave birth to Zeus's son Epaphus and
daughter Keroessa, and later married Egyptian king Telegonus. The lavender amethyst gemstones in
this 24" slim necklace shine with pale purple color, like the flower for Io in her
creature form. The faceted rondelles are strung on natural silk for excellent drape and
connect to a delicate sterling silver cable chain with small sterling silver lobster claw clasp.
