Hestia is a sibling of Zeus, Demeter, Poseidon, Hera and Hades, though she gave up her place among the others on Mount Olympus to tend hearth fires for which she is known. In ancient times, the hearth was the heart of the home, providing shelter and warmth as well as cooked meals. Each time a new Greek colony was established, a public hearth was created and kindled with a flame carried from Hestia's own hearth. Every meal began and ended with an offering to Hestia, and a newborn child was carried around the family hearth before introduced to the family. She was a quiet goddess and never married; she also preferred to stay out of the conflicts of her siblings and other gods and goddesses. She is not mentioned in myths, but like Demeter, she played a vital role in everyday life of mortals. Citrine is known for healing and filling oneself with joy, and peridot was used as a talisman against evil in the Middle Ages and currently used to build health, wealth and emotional stability. The two together represent healing and health, and this seems a fitting tribute for the goddess of the home and hearth.
