The blue topaz shimmers like the blue depths of a pool, and for good reason: topaz is highly refractive
(meaning it bends light), much like water. Topaz is also a hard gemstone with a
Mohs hardness of 8, only corundum and diamond are harder. The blue topaz in this sterling silver
pendant has been irradiated and/or heat treated to attain the saturated blue color, and this is
a common practice with topaz. Multiple strands of coated stainless steel cord are gathered together
in the silver plate torsion clasp to create a cool 17" necklace, a perfect gift for a swimmer
