In Muddy Road two monks are traveling and one helps an
attractive young woman cross a river (contact with women considered unwise and dangerous).
In the analogy woman:cargo::deviation:rule, considering the woman as cargo ponders the
role of deviations to the rule. The simple act of helping a person across a river was a kind
act but against the rules for the monks. Taken literally, "exceptional" is forming
an exception, but more commonly, we use it to describe an outstanding quality such as showing
kindness over strict adherence.
The pendant is solid brass with resin protecting the underlying paper from
most wear and weather, and the ribbon is hand-dyed silk edged with stitching.
