The Death's-Head Hawkmoth gets its name from the skull-like mark on its thorax. This
marking led many to view the moth as an ill omen -- a device of evil spirits even --
and its large size (3"-5") and tendency to squeak when disturbed can be alarming.
Yet, hawk moths are not harbingers of death; instead, they are experts at finding sweet-smelling flowers after dark,
like the rare Queen-of-the-night cactus blossoms and members of the nightshade family, like Datura,
tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and tobacco. This 17" necklace features a detailed death's head
hawkmoth in bronze, suspended on thin silver curb chain and fastening with the snap of a
sterling silver magnetic clasp. The clasp is flanked by two Czech glass beads and the curb chain
