Regardless of the name, bronzite contains no bronze; it is an iron-rich enstatite mineral (a pyroxene mineral) and member of the inosilicate group. The silica tetrahedra are organized in chains, often leading to a fibrous appearance and well defined cleavage planes. These cleavage surfaces exhibit a metallic sheen or schiller from fine layers of iron oxides and hydroxides. Although bronzite has nothing to do with bronze or the Bronze Age, it is a delightful material full of shimmer and the design is a classic one that will complement a variety of styles. Better would be "Bronzite Age", a time in which a wearer is drawn to unusual iron-rich gemstones. The Swarovski crystal and Czech glass underscore the warm hues of the stones.

Length: necklace - 18.5"

Materials:

  • bronzite beads
  • Swarovski crystal beads
  • Czech glass beads
  • Bali silver beads
  • sterling silver hook and eye clasp
  • Soft Flex 0.019" moderate duty nylon coated stainless steel cord

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

The beading cord is quite strong, and the bronzite stones are relatively hard. The necklace should be robust to tugging hands, but since the stones are large, care should be taken that the stones do not rub too much against the beading cord which can weaken or sever it. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

Not all jewelry - particularly beaded jewelry - work well with all varieties of necklines. The 18.5" necklace length means the necklace will lay flat and look balanced with crew necks, boat necks, turtle necks and shallow scoop necks. It might look awkward with V-necks, but it is long enough that it could be paired over a collared shirt, if the top button was around the breastbone or so. It is a mid-length necklace with larger, dense stones so it is not light, but not uncomfortably heavy either.
