The Greek goddess Selene personifies the moon, with her silver robes and chariot and
escapades across the sky. She fell for Endymion, a sleepy shepherd who lived without
aging and never woke up. Between them, they had 50 daughters, the Menae, who were
goddesses of the lunar months. There were 50 months between Olympic Games, and each month
had a different Mena as its goddess. Moonstone is a variety of feldspar, and
during formation, minerals separate into alternating layers at right angles.
Light falling between these thin layers is scattered, producing shimmering
iridescence called the "schiller" effect. These gemstones are spaced with
delicate Japanese seedbead glass and combined with wooden beads for a
versatile 21" necklace that can be wrapped as a bracelet. Antiqued copper
magnetic clasp makes fastening a snap.
