Either I mistake your shape and making quite,
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call'd Robin Goodfellow

So a fairy identifies the mischievous Puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream, the sprite acting under Oberon's orders to deliver love drops to various parties (the application of course goes awry). Throughout the forest and beneath the moon, lovers sigh, dream and love the wrong people until the kind-hearted Robin sets their love aright. The pale colors and rakish charm of the kunzite stones made me think of the light-hearted Puck, enjoying all under the silvery night. Kunzite is gem-grade spodumene, an aluminosilicate, colored lilac pink by manganese. Most spodumene occurs as opaque ash gray crystals and is important in its own right as a source of lithium. Kunzite is an uncommon gemstone, and top-drilled whole crystals such as these more uncommon still. The stones include tubular inclusions, which are common for kunzite and at least for this design, add to the wild, other-worldly feel of the necklace.

Length: necklace - 23 1/2"

Materials:

  • kunzite gemstone beads
  • Czech firepolish glass beads
  • sterling silver toggle clasp
  • SoftFlex heavy duty nylon-coated stainless steel cord (40 lb load test)

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. The color of kunzite fades with exposure to strong sunlight so store in a dark location when not in use.

The components themselves are fairly robust, but it is a heavy necklace with glass beads separating the kunzite stones that can be broken. For this reason, I recommend keeping it out of kids' hands. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

Not all jewelry - particularly beaded jewelry - work well with all necklines. This is a necklace that takes up space, both with the stones and wide drape. It needs a higher neckline and flatter surface to rest against, so it would not work well with button down shirts.
