I created the love, hope, and joy
necklaces together with the thought of them as a complementary jewelry "trifecta".
(They are shown all together on the love page, and the joy and hope necklaces
are shown on the hope page.) However, each necklace stands on
its own as well or better than in a group so each is offered separately.
What makes tourmaline a joy to work with is the superb range of colors available, and usually within
the same bead strand! When shopping at the gem show, I'm drawn to the hanks of tourmaline, glowing
magenta to dark greeen, and I always a strand or two that show lovely graduation of color, such as
found in the faceted teardrops in this necklace. To achieve the long length, I also added some
tourmaline rounds and a large smooth nugget. Hand-knotting silk thread between the gemstones
helps each one feel distinct as well providing excellent fluidity to the necklace. This
enables the wearer to wrap it multiple times and still achieve a necklace or bracelet that
drapes well and looks terrific.
