Nephrite jade and jadeite are both
considered "jade", though they different minerals. Jadeite, a pyroxene, is more granular
than fibrous in appearance than nephrite, an amphibole with waxy luster, and jadeite
is the type of jade treasured by Mesoamericans (Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, Incas).
Jadeite was used in masks and ritual items, and a piece of jadeite
was placed in the mouth of a deceased nobleman to serve as his heart in the afterlife.
This 18" necklace features jadeite beads along with labradorite and silvery
freshwater pearls that make for a terrific necklace or double wrap bracelet.
