Pale green new jade leaves emerge from the dark of deep blue lapis lazuli beads in this
19" necklace. The Badkhshan mines in Afghanistan have long been a source of
high quality lapis lazuli, from ancient Egyptian and Sumerian times to the present.
The mottled round gemstones in this necklace represent a moderate grade gemstone; the
highest grades are very dark blue with few white calcite or pyrite inclusions. The
beads are strung on natural silk cord for maximum fluidity and spaced with gleaming
small seedbeads. Three carved new jade serpentine leaves are linked with sterling silver,
to be worn unseen or as a focal point in the necklace. The necklace fastens with a
small sterling silver toggle.
