Diopside is a member of the pyroxene family (silicon-aluminum oxides) and common to the upper
mantle along with olivine (peridot gemstone). Chromium is responsible for the bottle-green color
of these diopside chips, which is why they're often called chrome diopside. Chrome diopside beads
tend to be smaller to showcase the deep green color that unfortunately can appear almost black
in larger stones. Gemstone grade diopside is rare and found primarily in Russia and Pakistan. This
16" necklace is a colorful accent piece close to the collar bone or it can be doubled and
worn as a wrap bracelet.
