Calliope is the Greek Muse who inspires eloquence and epic poetry, perhaps guiding Homer's
Iliad and Odyssey. Virgil and Shakespeare continued the tradition of asking a Muse
for inspiration at the opening of their creative works. She is often shown with a tablet and
stylus, befitting of her role. This 27" necklace features square and flowing elements, like
her tablet and stylus, in colors of earth and wine. Bright peridot spaces buff feldspar squares, ending
in brushed silver beads. Rich colored petal freshwater pearls make up the center of the necklace,
from smaller 7-8mm petals to 12-13mm petals. Petal pearls are non-nucleated and often harvested as a by-product
from freshwater mussel pearl cultivation (first harvest of a seeded pearl, second harvest of petal pearls).
They are made entirely
of nacre, which tends to be higher luster, and irregularly shaped from the lack of a seeded nucleus. These
are colored a rich burgundy and add a dramatic element to an outfit. The petal pearls are hand-knotted on
natural silk cord, and the feldspar beads are strung on beading cord. The necklace may fit over the head or
fastened with a larger sterling silver toggle clasp.
