When I was in college, I developed an appreciation for afternoon tea. The soft, slanting late afternoon light through tall curtained windows and quiet talk over steaming teapots were a welcome respite from the hectic schedule of classes, work and workouts. The faceted citrine gemstones in this necklace are like that mellow late afternoon light and reminders of that sense of refinement even in the sea of sweatshirts.

Citrine is also associated with prosperity and good fortune, which is why it is suggested as a gift for a graduate!

Length: necklace - 17"

Materials:

  • faceted citrine gemstones
  • Japanese Delica glass seedbeads
  • sterling silver clasp
  • Accuflex nylon coated stainless steel cord

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

The beading cord is very strong, but the items strung on the cord are not as strong. Delica glass seedbeads are beautiful, uniform and thin; they are easily cracked or crushed with moderate pressure. Many of the facted citrine stones show inclusions or cracks, and these add to the character of the stone but take away from its strength. For these reasons, I recommend keeping this necklace out of reach from young hands. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

Not all jewelry - particularly beaded jewelry - work well with all necklines. The 17" necklace is a nice mid-length, which means it will rest naturally for many women below the collar bone. For non-collared shirts, it will look better with higher necklines (think crew necks or high boat necks), and for collared V-neck blouses, it will look better in which the V extends to about mid-sternum. Deep scoop neck and V-neck tees will also be flattering; the key is for the neckline not to compete with the necklace.
